Cathay Pacific fires cabin crew for allegedly mocking passenger
Cathay Pacific Airways has fired three flight attendants after allegedly mocking the English language skills of a passenger from mainland China.
It came after an online complaint quickly went viral and drew public criticism.
It was also widely covered by mainland China media.
It occurred on a flight from Chengdu to Hong Kong,
The passenger apparently requested a blanket but mistakenly said ‘carpet,’ according to media reports.
This was ridiculed by the flight attendants, according to the online post.
Cantonese is the language mostly spoken in Hong Kong.
As the outcry grew, the airline suspended the cabin crew as an investigation was conducted.
The three cabin crew members have now been dismissed.
Cathay issued an apology.
“There is no compromise for such violations,” CEO Ronald Lam said.
