Grand Cayman will likely remain off the cruise radar until at least September 1.
Cayman Tourism minister Moses Kirkconnell said borders will stay closed until then at least and could remain off-limits to tourism until later in the year.
That will affect itineraries of Carnival Cruise Line, which are set to resume in August.
The line’s Caribbean schedules include sailings with calls at Grand Cayman.
Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises, and Disney Cruise Line also have ships scheduled to call at Grand Cayman during August.
"I don’t think that we’re going to see cruise vessels back in Grand Cayman for the second, third quarter or fourth quarter, to be quite honest," said Kirkconnell.
"We will continue to dialogue and see what’s the best for the tourism industry and product."
Grand Cayman’s borders were originally set to reopen in June but the later date has been approved by the cabinet.
That itself is a tentative ‘fluid’ date and as Kirkconnell said, could be pushed back further depending on the situation at the time.
