China boycotts G20 tourism meeting
China will not attend the upcoming G20 Tourism Working Group meeting, as it will be held in the disputed territory of Kashmir.
China condemned India’s choice of venue, announcing an official boycott.
It was also condemned by Pakistan.
Pakistan-India hostilities over Kashmir have raged for 75 years.
India holds the G20 chair this year with the tourism meeting one of many events in the run up to the main G20 meeting in September.
Srinagar is the host of the three-day G20 tourism meeting this week.
Security is tight with the venue being patrolled by Indian troops.
Part of the disputed region includes Ladakh, which has seen border clashes between India and China in recent years.
“China is firmly opposed to holding any kind of G20 meetings in disputed territory, and will not attend,” Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
