China cracking down on false advertising on travel websites

Wednesday, 12 October 20163 min read
The China National Tourism Administration (CNTA) has teamed up with Internet regulator the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) to crack down on misleading advertising on travel websites.
The two agencies have launched a three-month campaign and have urged customers to notify them of any websites which have false information and advertising or which flout consumer rights.
Authorities will also crack down on websites which violate privacy rules relating to customer data.
The campaign will focus on online travel companies, tourism web portals, destination marketing companies and mobile apps.
CNTA and CAC said they will have powers to issue penalties against offending online services and could shut down websites in serious cases.
