China launches first electrified bullet train in Tibet
China has commenced operations of the first electrified bullet train in Tibet, marking a connectivity first for part of the remote Himalayan region. The 160 mph service links Tibetan capital Lhasa with Nyingchi, a town close to the Indian border.
The 435-km Lhasa-Nyingchi section of the Sichuan-Tibet Railway opens up part of the Tibet Autonomous Region for public transport for the first time, as China ramps up tourism development in the region.
Sichuan-Tibet Railway starts from Chengdu, Sichuan Province.
