Chinese authorities bust hacker gang targeting airlines
A police operation in east China’s Wenzhou City has rounded up 20 people accused of running a hacking ring targeted at airlines.
It said they are suspected of stealing more than 300,000 personal information records from over 50 airlines since 2016.
The gang is alleged to have stolen user IDs, passwords and flight information.
The data was then sold for 5 yuan (about $0.80) per record, Xinhua reported.
It has made about 10 million yuan in the operation, police said.
Investigators didn’t disclose which airlines were targeted.
Under Chinese law, any individual who steals or sells 500 or more pieces of personal information could face seven years in prison if convicted.
