Cruise industry salutes its top performers

SYDNEY – The Australasian cruise industry’s best performers have been recognised for their contribution to Australia and New Zealand’s growing cruise market at the International Cruise Council Australasia’s 2009 awards dinner.

Council chairman Karen Christensen said despite tough trading conditions in 2009, the industry had performed well and put forward one of the strongest fields of entrants in the awards’ history.

The Australian Cruise Agency of the Year award went to Phil Hoffmann Travel, Glenelg, South Australia, while one of its consultants, Christa Kinnear, won the Frank Johnson Cruise Consultant of the Year Award for Australia.

New Zealand’s House of Travel, Howick, also scored a double, winning Cruise Agency of the Year, and Cruise Consultant of the Year, Alison Kearney.

Former ICCA chairman and founding member Richard Cranmer was awarded the Neil Frazer Award for an Outstanding Contribution by an Individual.

Bronze Cruise Agency of the Year – Ozcruising, Phillip ACT

Consumer Promotion of the Year – Cruise Travel Centre, Kotara NSW

Rising Star Award – Samantha Griffiths, Champagne Travel, Mandurah WA

New Zealand award winners:

Gold Cruise Agency of the Year – House of Travel, Howick

Silver Cruise Agency of the Year – House of Travel, Remuera

Bronze Cruise Agency of the Year – Fine Travel, Auckland

Frank Johnson Cruise Consultant of the Year – Alison Kearney, House of Travel, Howick

Consumer Promotion of the Year – Mondo Travel

Rising Star Award – Faith Xin Xin Shen, Midday Travel, Auckland
