Cruise lines pulling away but tour operators returning to Egypt
Gap Adventures was among the latest to announce it will resume tour operations in Egypt beginning this week.
“Information from our team of experts in the region indicates that the required tourism infrastructure is in place to safely and effectively operate our tours,” said Sue Barreau, Middle East senior operations manager who added security and safety for travelers was the company’s main concert.
Gap Adventures has extensive experience operating adventure tours in Egypt, and brings more than 4,000 clients a year to Egypt on a number of tour programs, including Best of Egypt, Egypt & Jordan Adventure, The Egyptian Journey, Absolute Egypt and Land of the Pharaohs.
Many other tour operators have already resumed Egyptian operations. They include Isramworld, Abercrombie & Kent, Ya’lla Tours, Intrepid Travel, Tucan Travel, Big Five Tours and Expeditions, with departures scheduled within the month.
Cruise lines, however, have been pulling away and staying away from the country, including Costa Crociere, Celebrity, Azamara, Louis Cruises and Royal Caribbean.
With civil unrest subsiding in Egypt, the Minister of Tourism Mounir Fakhry Abdelnour is launching a campaign aimed at bringing tourists back to Egypt.
“Since the latest developments that put Egypt on the path of real democracy and fulfillment of the Egyptian people’s aspirations, we have been receiving positive signals from various countries, especially European governments that lifted and/or softened the travel warnings,” he said in a statement
