Cruise passenger dies after balcony fall
Carnival Cruise Line has confirmed the death of a passenger on a Bahamas cruise after a woman fell from her balcony onto a lower deck.
The woman tragically plunged ‘several decks below,’ Carnival Cruise Line spokesman Vance Gulliksen said.
“The ship’s medical team responded immediately, but, unfortunately, she passed away. Our thoughts and prayers are with the deceased and her family.”
The Carnival Elation was nearing Freeport, Bahamas, when the accident happened during a cruise from Jacksonville.
The woman has not yet been named.
It is thought she fell from her 14th deck stateroom balcony onto the 11th deck.
That is the equivalent of two floors as the ship does not have a deck 13.
Last October a young child fell to her death on the Carnival Glory after falling from a deck on the ship’s inside atrium onto a lower deck just as it arrived in Miami.
