Cruising tipped for dynamic growth
Question Time special report: Carnival UK managing director David Dingle has said there is “no reason” why cruises should not be dynamically packaged by agents.
Cruises have yet to feature in many dynamic packaging systems but Dingle said Mediterranean departures in particular could lend themselves to the market.
“I don’t see why dynamic packaging should not grow,” he said. “Mediterranean ports are seeing much more low cost carrier airlift. It enables us to put out a cruise-only price and gives us flexibility.”
He added that Carnival is “increasingly satisfied” that agents are selling the right product to the right client.
“We used to have a problem but there are now fewer examples of people being booked on the wrong cruise line,” he said.
Meanwhile, cruise retailer 1st4Cruising, recently acquired by Harry Goodman from Page and Moy, said it will soon start packaging cruise product in multi-centre holidays.
Managing director Kevin Ivie said: “We will include cruises in a range of holiday where the cruise will not be the major element of the package. We may include two or three destinations in addition to the cruise.”
He said it would probably look at top-end product.
