David Pekoske gets Senate OK as new TSA administrator
The Senate has unanimously confirmed President Trump’s pick for new head of the Transportation Security Administration.
Senators approved the appointment of David Pekoske as TSA administrator.
Pekoske comes from the U.S. Coast Guard where he was chief operating officer and second-in-command.
He was also previously commander of Coast Guard Pacific Area and Coast Guard Defense Forces West.
He was endorsed by the Airports Council International – North America, which said: "Ensuring the safety and security of the traveling public, the top priority for airports, is best achieved through effective collaboration between airports, airlines, law enforcement agencies, and other aviation industry stakeholders."
"Assistant Secretary Pekoske’s proven track record of mission-focused strategic management is essential in reinforcing the importance of a risk-based approach to aviation security," said its CEO Kevin Burke.
The TSA has had more than a dozen administrators in the 16 years since it was established following 9/11.
