Three more tourists remain missing in Greece after an American traveller was the latest death amid soaring temperatures across the country.

The 55-years old from Floral Park, N.Y. was found on a beach on Mathraki.

“He was found in the surf on the beach at a spot which had already been searched, so it seems he was washed out of the sea in the past 24 hours,” deputy mayor, Spyros Argyros, said.

He had been missing for five days and the cause of death hasn’t been disclosed yet.

TV and radio presenter Dr Michael Mosley died after going for a walk on the island of Symi a week ago.

In addition, a 74-year-old Netherlands tourist also died.

“The problem of missing hikers is not new, we have it every year,” said Constantina Dimoglidou, a police spokesperson.

“But this year, it seems more people became disoriented during the heat wave.”

Temperatures have surpassed 40C and it caused the temporary closure of the Acropolis.

At least three other tourists have died in the last month who went walking amid high temperatures.

As of Sunday, at least three more foreign nationals are missing after going hiking.

It includes Albert Calibet, 59, a retired LA County police officer, who has been missing almost one week after setting out on a solo hike on island of Amorgos.

Two French women, aged 73 and 64, are also currently missing on the island of Sikinos.

The heatwave is affecting large parts of the Greek mainland and islands.
