EasyJet to challenge BA / Swiss deal

Wednesday, 24 Sep, 2003 0

EasyJet is reportedly ready to challenge any deal between British Airways and Swiss, demanding that the two carriers give up a number of take-off slots at Heathrow airport.

As reported, the two flag-carriers yesterday announced a deal under which Swiss would join the OneWorld alliance along with airlines including American Airlines and Qantas. Under the deal, Swiss will relinquish eight pairs of slots at Heathrow.

But, according to The Times newspaper, easyJet will challenge the agreement. Spokesman Toby Nicol reportedly told the newspaper: “We have no desire to go to Heathrow but other airlines might. Given that it is impossible to get into Heathrow, we will demand this alliance gives up slots at Heathrow.”
