Eleven dead in China quarantine hotel collapse

The death toll has risen to 11 in the collapse of a Chinese hotel used to house coronavirus patients.

Fifty-eight people were under observation at Xinjia Hotel, in Quanzhou which had been transformed into a makeshift hospital.

All had tested negative for the virus.

The building was constructed in 2013 and later converted into a 66-room hotel in 2018.

The cause of the collapse is still under investigation, although some construction work was being undertaken at the time.

More than 1,000 fire fighters and seven rescue dogs were at the scene searching for trapped people under the rubble.

China’s Ministry of Emergency Management said 38 had been rescued and 23 were still missing.

More than 3,000 people have died in China with most cases in Hubei province, which is about 500 miles from Quanzhou.
