Emergency crews attend Flybe landing at Newquay

Wednesday, 4 September 20133 min read

Flybe flights to and from Newquay have been cancelled this morning after one of its aircraft with 44 people onboard reported hydraulic problems as it came in to land at the airport yesterday.

However, the airline denied media reports that the Dash 8 aircraft made an emergency landing, despite emergency crews being called to attend.

Flybe said a fault was reported on approach to the airport and emergency services were alerted as a precaution, but the aircraft landed normally. There were no injuries.

One passenger tweeted that firefighters sprayed foam on the aircraft, saidd the BBC, although this was denied by the airline.

As a result of the incident, one flight to Gatwick and another from Gatwick to Newquay have been cancelled.

Flybe stressed that flight BE806 landed normally, and insisted that under Civil Aviation Authority guidelines it did not make an emergency landing. "However, due to a minor technical fault, it was deemed necessary that the 40 passengers disembark the aircraft on the taxiway, which they did without incident before being bussed to the terminal," it said in a statement.

"As is standard industry practice, the airport’s emergency services attended the aircraft.

"Flybe regrets the inconvenience experienced by our passengers as a result of this incident."
