Emirates Launches Double-Daily Flights from Perth
Emirates today launched double daily flights from Perth, emphasising a strong commitment to the Australian market and securing Emirates’ presence in long-haul flights to and from Australia.
The second daily flight from Perth will be serviced by a Boeing 777-200 aircraft, which offers a total of 290 seats – 12 in First Class, 42 in Business and 236 in Economy – and 18 tonnes of cargo.
The additional flight service (which has increased from 11 per week to 14), offers passengers quick and convenient connections between Perth and Europe and the Middle East – enabling same day travel to several European destinations. West Australian passengers can depart Perth at breakfast, stopover in Dubai for lunch and arrive in London for dinner – a service that was previously unavailable.
In December, Emirates will further increase its capacity to Perth, upgrading its evening daily flight from an Airbus A340-300 offering 267 seats to a Boeing 777-300ER with 364 seats, a jump of 36 per cent. A total of 644 seats will then be available daily between Perth and Dubai.
Richard Vaughan, Emirates’ Senior Vice President Commercial Operations East Asia and Australasia said: “Emirates has grown tremendously in the West Australian market since launching services four years ago.”
“The additional flights signal our commitment and confidence in the growth of the Australian, and particularly the Western Australian market, and reflect a strong and steady demand for Emirates’ passenger and cargo services.
“These services are expected to bring greater access and facilitate traffic flows between Western Australia and key markets in Europe and the Middle East.”
The new services will provide valuable additional cargo capacity, supporting Emirates SkyCargo in its on-going efforts to develop existing business, as well as new export opportunities from Western Australia to more than 80 destinations throughout the Middle East, Africa, Europe and the USA.
The additional capacity will help meet the current high demand for mining equipment to Africa and the increasing volumes of perishable products such as chilled meat, fruit and flowers to the Middle East and Europe.
Emirates launched flights from Perth in August 2002 with four flights per week, commencing daily flights in March 2003. The Perth-Dubai flight was the first ever non-stop connection between the Middle East and Australia.
In February 2006 Emirates opened a First and Business Class Lounge at the Perth International Airport. The Lounge is closely modelled on the Emirates Lounge at Dubai International Airport, and offers passengers a luxurious sanctuary whilst awaiting departures.
Flight EK425 departs Perth daily at 06:30 to arrive in Dubai at 13:45. The return flight EK424, departs Dubai daily at 09:25 to arrive in Perth at 00:10 the following morning.
