Enjoy Kakadu without the crowds
Leading small group operator Aussie Adventure Holidays and the Djabulukgu Association have announced that it will open a new, upmarket permanent camp on the Aboriginal lands of Hawk Dreaming in Kakadu in 2006.
Permission to camp on the Hawk Dreaming lands has been negotiated with the traditional custodians and is exclusive to Aussie Adventure Holidays. This exclusive access provides travellers with a unique opportunity to experience the amazing landscapes without the crowds.
Hawk Dreaming abounds with many examples of ancient rock art and occupation sites. With the guidance and permission of the traditional owner of Hawk Dreaming, Aussie Adventure Holidays’ guides introduce travellers to this special place.
Aussie Adventure Holidays has operated a temporary wilderness camp at Hawk Dreaming for the past 2 years. The new permanent camp is currently under construction and will be open in time for the commencement of the 2006 touring season in May.
The buildings of the camp have been designed by the award winning Troppo Architects, who also designed the Bowali Visitor Centre in Kakadu National Park.
The new camp will accommodate up to 16 people in 8 permanent tents and has been designed to be compatible with the local environment.
The permanent bungalow tents will be powered with a ceiling fan and a light and will feature real beds and linen.
The camp will also feature a kitchen and dining tent, modern bathroom facilities with hot and cold water and a plunge pool.
Travellers who wish to stay at the new camp should book Aussie Adventure Holidays’ 3-day Kakadu Hawk Dreaming tour which departs from Darwin and is priced from $895. This superb small group safari style camping tour visits a wide range of environments at ideal times of the day chosen to avoid the crowds and the heat of the days, for a true appreciation of Kakadu National Park and a truly intimate experience of ancient Aboriginal history.
