ETOA addresses website accessibility
The European Tour Operators Association has produced a detailed briefing document outlining different levels of website accessibility.
Listing what web developers “must” do, “should” do and “may” do, the document will be launched at ETOA’s annual conference in London next month.
In developing its guidelines ETOA has incorporated the international standards proposed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
ETOA’s e-commerce manager Rachel Tym, said: “The advantages of following these guidelines are greater than simply avoiding legal action. It gives you access to an import sector of the market.
“Retrospective conformity is an expensive business process. You also cannot assume that people will always view your site with a 17” monitor. Mobile devices will need accessible websites to present information to their users.”
Other topics on the conference agenda in London include:
- Legal issues affecting tour managers in Europe
- Selling travel online in Europe: legal pitfalls and where to do it
- Progress of the .travel initiative – update from Tralliance, the organising body
- The big issues facing tourism in Europe
- The impact of climate change on European tourism
- The potential of India as an origin market
ETOA’s annual conference is being held at the Radisson SAS Portman in London on November 10.
