‘Fatigued’ Virgin Atlantic pilots considering strike action
Virgin Atlantic pilots are mulling strike action.
Union BALPA said 96% of pilots support strikes as there is ‘serious concerns’ about fatigue.
This is being caused by scheduling and rostering which date back to operations during the pandemic.
Virgin says it offered to ‘enter formal pay and lifestyle negotiations with’ the union.
“We continue to honour all agreements,” the airline said.
Virgin Atlantic has a workforce of over 800 pilots.
BALPA said: “Our members have registered a trade dispute arising out of serious concerns relating to pilot fatigue and wellbeing.”
The company said it ‘underwent a radical transformation as a result of the impact of Covid-19, which was possible due to the collective effort of our amazing people.’
“This was fundamental to our survival.”
“We remain ready to commence negotiations to find an acceptable way forward.”
