One in six parents lie to their children’s school in order to save money on their family holiday and not get fined, according to Teletext Holidays.
The company commissioned research that shows some 17% told teachers either that their kids were ill, that the dates they planned to go on holiday were the only ones available or that the plane was delayed coming home.
Just under half of those surveyed said they were prepared to take their children out of school to get a better deal. Almost nine out of ten said that despite rumours of tax rises and the delicate economic climate they were still determined to have a family holiday.
Some 65% of those questioned said that there’s not enough money-saving advice around and 38% said they didn’t know where to look to find good deals for holidays.
Teletext Holidays’ managing director Victoria Sanders said: “We spoke to over 1,000 parents and the vast majority of them are desperate for advice about how they can save money on a family break.”
“There’s no escaping the fact that prices will always be higher when demand is at its peak, but there are still ways to save money on a family break such as looking out for free child places, opting for all-inclusive deals, cashing in supermarket rewards points and finding kids eat free offers.”
“Family finances are still tight and there’s talk about tax rises to come, so people are understandably looking at how they can get the best value. Whilst parents throughout the UK would rather not take their children out of school, they feel they have little choice.”
Sanders said Teletext Holidays has created a new price tracker to highlight the best deal of the day on 20 of the most popular family holiday destinations in the UK and abroad.
