Fiji hosts 200 Aussie travel agents
Fiji Tourism CEO Viliame Gavoka met members of Traveller’s Choice in Sigatoka, Fiji yesterday, to discussing promotional plans, with the Fiji Visitors Bureau having welcomed more than 200 executives from Australia’s independent agency group, saying it will act as an assurance to tourists that Fiji is still safe and peaceful.
He said the arrival of the team last week was a relief because they came at the peak of negative publicity generated by the impasse between the Government and military, with Mr Gavoka saying some executives he spoke to said they failed to understand “what all the fuss was about”.
He said the response was very positive and he was optimistic that when the executives returned to Australia, they would continue to promote Fiji as a friendly tourist destination.
Mr Gavoka also said that some members of the group travelled to Savusavu and island resorts to see some popular tourist spots, with many of them assuring him they would continue to encourage people to travel to Fiji.
He also said the bureau’s office in Australia and New Zealand was continuing with promotional packages and there was still a chance that visitor arrivals in December and January would be high if the negative publicity stopped and the two parties were able to reach a solution.
