First commercial A380 flight set for October 25

October 25 has been set as the date of the first commercial flight on the new Airbus A380, with flight SQ380 departing Singapore for Sydney.

With the aricaft configured to seat 471 passengers in three classes, Singapore Airlines will be the first to fly the super-jumbo, 10 days after it takes delivery and it is the first of 19 A380s on order by Singapore Airlines, which has an option for an additional six.

In total, 14 airlines, including Emirates, Virgin, Air France and Qantas, have ordered or have committed to buy 173 A380s.
