Tokoriki is famous for its diving, being the Lonely Planet Author’s Choice 2006, so if your clients are looking for diving or fishing then Tokoriki has to be on their must stay list
Reports from Tokoriki say that both the fishing and diving are really hot at the meoment, with on a sportfishing trip a couple of days ago a Tokoriki guest catching a fabulous Yellow Fin Tuna of 54.5kg (119lb), taking 32 minutes to land on 24kg tackle and also on the same trip 3 nice Mahi Mahi were caught.
A Light Tackle Fishing Trip from Tokoriki saw a nice Giant Trevally of about 15kg (33lb) caught and released, plus a small Spanish Mackerel and several Scad Mackerel. Also drifting over the reef and casting small soft plastics, Tokoriki guests have been catching lots of Emperor and Coral Trout.
On a dive this week to to the “Outer Limits” guests saw two eagle rays, a dog tooth tuna and a couple of white tip reef sharks, and on the way back across Mana passage the boat was joined by a pod of spinner dolphins.
Tokoriki’s Christmas morning dive to the Salamanda ship wreck was reported as great, with a huge 3 metre tawny nurse shark (completely harmless) fast asleep in the engine room!
The fish seem to know already that they are protected within Tokoriki’s marine
reserve and big schools of parrot fish, rabbit fish and blue fin trevally cruise in and out of the lagoon.
An American couple who visited Tokoriki solely for the snorkeling rated “Paradise Point” as probably the best coral cover they had ever seen.
