Flight attendants promise CHAOS
Piedmont Airlines flight attendants, who serve US Airways as a key US Airways express carrier, have promised to strike if management fails to negotiate a new agreement.
In a statement released on Friday the attendants, represented by the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA), said that if management "continues to ignore our critical role as First Responders and fail to reach an agreement, then they should be prepared for CHAOS."
CHAOS is a trademarked acronym for "Create Havoc Around Our System." The union says that with CHAOS, a strike could affect the entire system or a single flight. They said that the union decides when, where and how to strike without notice to management or passengers.
The union and Piedmont are currently in negotations, moderated by the National Mediation Board (NMB). A number of steps would have to occur before the union could legally cause operational disruptions, says US Airways spokesperson Michelle Mohr. Mohr says today’s announcement by the AFA does not mean a strike is imminent.
Piedmont Airlines, headquartered in Salisbury, Maryland, provides about 400 daily departures to 55 cities throughout the eastern United States and Canada including Charlotte, NC; Philadelphia, PA; Charlottesville, VA; Roanoke, VA; and Harrisburg, PA.
