Flights cancelled as French air traffic controllers strike again

Monday, 15 Sep, 2016 0

Ryanair has cancelled 72 flights today and cancelled 22 flights last night  due to a planned air traffic control strike in France, the 14th this year.

The airline also warned further delays were likely as a result of the industrial action, which will affect any flights flying over French air space.

EasyJet warned that as 65% of its flights travel through French air space, it was likely to suffer some delays and cancellations.

Aer Lingus has also cancelled 10 flights, including services between Dubiln and Madrid, Paris, and Perpignan and from Cork to Lanzarote.

Air France plans to operate all of its long-haul flights but only 95% of domestic and medium-haul flights to and from Paris Charles de Gaulle and only 77% of domestic and medium-haul flights to and from Paris Orly.

British Airways has reintroduced its flexible rebooking policy for passengers due to fly to or from France, Madrid or Barcelona, allowing them to defer their travel for up to a week.

In a statement on its website, the airline said: "Unfortunately, if the threatened strike does go ahead, we will have to cancel some flights and other short haul flights may also experience some delays and disruption, given how many flights would normally use French airspace each day.

"We will be using larger aircraft, where possible, to help affected customers and are doing all we can to reduce the levels of disruption.

"We are likely to publish our revised schedule for Thursday early on Wednesday afternoon once we have more information from the French authorities."
