Foreign Office issues warning for Britons in California
Britons visiting California are being urged to follow local evacuation orders as deadly wildfires roar across the state.
The worst fires are in the wine country of Napa and Sonoma counties, but smoke has also engulfed the San Francisco Bay area and the fires can be seen from Disneyland.
In an update to its USA travel advice, the Foreign Office said:. "A state of emergency has been declared in Napa, Sonoma and Yuba. Evacuation orders are in place in several areas and emergency shelters have been opened.
"Follow the instructions issued by the local authorities, and obey all evacuation orders."
So far, at least 10 people have died and local authorities said that number is expected to grow. More than 100 people have been treated for fire-related injuries or health issues including burns and smoke inhalation.
An estimated 1,500 structures have been destroyed and 57,000 acres have been burned in eight counties.
The fires started on Sunday night and Monday and spread quickly because of dry conditions. So far, more than 20,000 people have been evacuated.
