Free flights for nice passengers

Monday, 24 May 20043 min read

An American no-frills carrier is offering free flight tickets to passengers who are “nice to each other”.

The BBC News website reports that cabin staff on Song, Delta’s low-cost carrier, will next month be given four tickets each to give away at their discretion. Examples of behaviour likely to be rewarded include helping others with their bags or remaining positive during delays.

Song’s chief executive John Selvaggio is quoted as saying: “We always give away products when people have a problem. I’d love to see what happens when you give away a ticket for some body doing something good.”

However, airline analysts seem less than convinced by the carrier’s business model. Ray Neidl, analyst at Blaycock and Partners, reportedly said: “Next thing you know they will be paying them to fly. I just hope not that many people are nice – yields are bad enough already.”
