Friday, 17 February 20173 min read
Indonesia’s flag carrier Garuda will launch direct flights to Moscow in August.
The airline will fly to the Russian capital three times a week from Jakarta using Airbus A330-200.
The route was announced this week in Jakarta by Garuda CEO Arif Wibowo in the presence of Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Mikhail Yurievich Galuzyn.
"We are trying to accelerate plans regarding the launch of direct flights to Moscow in August. We will fly three times a week using wide body aircraft Airbus A330-200," said Wibowo.
Tourism is growing in both directions between the two countries.
Russian tourist arrivals to Indonesia grew by 14% in the first half of 2016.
The outbound tourism market to Russia is also on the rise, although remains relatively small due to current lack of connectivity.
"Realisation of the direct flight plan between Russia and Indonesia has become one of our main priorities in the effort to increase the numbers of tourists visit to Russia," said Ambassador Galuzyn.
No expected launch date or planned flight schedule has yet been announced.
