Gatwick closed after hole found in runway

Flights to and from Gatwick were disrupted on Sunday afternoon after a hole was reportedly discovered in the main runway.

The airport temporarily closed at around 3pm for around an hour as investigations were carried out.

The closure was still causing flight delays and cancellations at 8.30pm. Some flights were diverted to Stansted.

Gatwick apologised to affected passengers but said safety was its number one priority.
