Germany imposes quarantine on UK travellers
The UK has now been designated an ‘area of variants of concern’ by Germany meaning all travellers are subject to a two-week quarantine.
Even those who are vaccinated or have recovered from the virus must undergo quarantine.
Germany’s disease control agency the Robert Koch Institute said the rule applies to ‘all British Overseas Territories, Isle of Man and the Channel Islands.’
Travellers must also be show a negative PCR test, taken within 72 hours of arrival.
"I am very concerned about the developments in Great Britain. The Omicron variant is spreading rapidly there. We must therefore act consistently and quickly, said Bavarian Health Minister Klaus Holetschek.
Regional health ministers urged the government at the weekend to crackdown on travel from the UK due to surging cases of Omicron.
Rory Boland, Which? Travel Editor said the sudden change ‘will cause chaos for those looking to visit family and friends this Christmas.’
"International travel remains unpredictable and other countries could still take measures at short notice, such as Germany’s decision to ban UK tourists."
"In many cases, there’s no automatic right to a refund if restrictions change overseas, so it’s absolutely essential people book with a provider that includes the flexibility to rebook."
France recently announced a ban on travel from the UK unless there was a ‘compelling reason.’
