GTMC appoints deputy chairman
Maurice Veronique has been appointed deputy chairman of the Guild of Travel Management Companies.
Veronique is chairman and chief executive of The Appointment Group, based in London.
At the GTMC’s AGM yesterday, Reed & Mackay Travel managing director Richard Boardman was also welcomed back onto the Executive Committee after a couple of years absence and Stephen Etchells, American Express VP and general manager for corporate travel UK and Ireland, joined the Executive for the first time.
Lonsdale Travel, which will shortly be known officially as Capita Travel, has joined the Guild, represented by its new managing director Simone Buckley, and their alternate, Paul Smith.
Announcing the appointments, chairman Paul Allen said there would be further new members to announce shortly.
He said the GTMC would focus on three things during 2007 – fostering a positive atmosphere between travel management companies and their partners and suppliers, achieve recognition for TMCs and reaffirm amongst suppliers that they are a vital part of the supply chain, and develop a more forceful lobbying voice
“I believe the future for business travel is bright. That future is certainly going to be green. But that doesn’t mean the Guild won’t see red when it needs to cajole, argue and persuade wherever necessary in order to secure a better future for our industry, our members and the clients we serve,” he said.
