Guests evacuated from Alaska cruise ship after fire
Dozens of passengers were evacuated from a cruise ship in Alaska due to a fire.
The U.S. Coast Guard was called from the Wilderness Discoverer cruise ship in Glacier Bay National Park.
The Wilderness Discoverer is operated by UnCruise Adventures.
Boat and aircrews from the Coast Guard evacuated 51 passengers and 16 crew members.
They were then taken to the Sapphire Princess ship.
“The quick launch of our assets and the teamwork among the Sapphire Princess helped in the timeliness of this rescue,” the Coast Guard service said.
The Wilderness Discoverer was then towed to Ketchikan.
UnCruise said the fire started in and was contained to the engine room.
“There have been no injuries resulting from the fire. Our crew promptly extinguished the fire using ” Owner & CEO, Captain Dan Blanchard said.
“All guests will receive a full refund,” the company said.
