Hawaii may push back tourism reopening again
Hawaii Gov. David Ige is warning the state’s planned resumption of inbound tourism may be delayed again.
It planned to allow travelers in without a mandatory quarantine period from 1 September if they supply proof of a negative Covid-19 test.
That September date had already been pushed back from August.
The state is struggling to control a rise in new infections.
"If there are too many cases here and we haven’t stopped the increase, then we would be looking at delaying the September 1st date," Ige said.
"Clearly, we would want to see a stopping of the increase in the number of new cases here in the state and hopefully begin the trend downward."
The state recorded more than 300 new cases this week taking the number to over 2,500.
There have been 26 deaths so far.
