Hays buys stake in northwest miniple
Hays Travel has entered into its first franchise project with northwest miniple Just Go, whose franchise deal with TUI is due to expire.
Just Go was previously part of the Hays Travel Independence Group but left in 2006 to join First Choice as its first franchise partner. It later joined TUI UK and Ireland, but the two businesses announced earlier this year they were to split in September.
TUI’s director of retail Kathryn Ward said the franchise operation did not meet its long-term distribution strategy.
Hays will take a 40% stake in 14-branch Just Go, which will be rebranded Hays Travel with Just Go. Three existing Hays Travel outlets may later join the franchise.
Just Go will continue to be managed by Don Bircham, but Hays Travel founder John Hays will join the board.
The deal follows Hays’ acquisition of the staff, bookings and customer base of Jesmond Travel in Newcastle last week, and last year’s £7.6m acquisition of Bath Travel.
