Honolulu dropping most Covid restrictions for large events
Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi announced the relaxation of restrictions regarding major events and entertainment.
It will see a dramatic easing of restrictions on outdoor and indoor events and is going it alone rather than coordinating it at a statewide level.
"We are going in a separate direction," Blangiardi said.
"The state understands that and we have accepted full responsibility at the City and County. It’s a new acceptable norm. Our public health is top of mind, but the time has come for us to move forward."
From 3 November all large outdoor and indoor seated events will be able to open at 100% capacity.
Masks are required and all adults must be fully vaccinated.
No food and drink will be served on site.
Attendance at indoor community events such as weddings and funerals can have up to 150 people starting next Wednesday and up to 300 people from 24 November.
Outdoor ‘interactive’ events like these can have up to 500 in attendance.
Mayor Blangiardi said the Honolulu Marathon will go ahead in December with no attendee limit and no masks required.
Also from 3 November, the mayor said bars will be able to serve alcohol through 2 am. or 4 am., depending on their current license.
Currently, bars are required to stop serving at midnight.
