IATA: Global airline profits to rise

Trade group International Air Transport Association expects global airline profit to increase to $36 billion in 2025, a double-digit jump on last year.

This is despite global trade uncertainty and security issues in the Middle East and Russia.

IATA’s Global Outlook for Air Transport report forceasts an all-time high of $979 billion in revenues.

Airlines’ average net profit margin is expected go up 3.7%.

The number of air travelers is also set to reach an all-time high of nearly five billion in 2025.

Still, IATA has concerns over cargo and corporate travel due to trade issues as well as the ongoing Ukraine conflict.

IATA’s profit forecast is slight below its previous outlook

“The first half of 2025 has brought significant uncertainties to global markets. Nonetheless, by many measures, including net profits, it will still be a better year for airlines than 2024,” said Willie Walsh, IATA’s director general.

“The biggest positive driver is the price of jet fuel, which has fallen 13% compared with 2024. Moreover, we anticipate airlines flying more people and more cargo in 2025.
