Increase in air travel expected at Thanksgiving

Thursday, 3 November 20163 min read
Air travel over the Thanksgiving holiday is projected to rise 2.5% according to trade group Airlines for America.
Based on a 12-day period starting November 18 either side of Thanksgiving, A4A predicts 27.3 million passengers will take flight on US airlines.
Sunday, November 27 will be the busiest day with up to 2.81 million travelers, it says.
Thanksgiving Day itself will the quietest day with an estimated 1.51 million travelling on Us airlines.
A4A doesn’t expect unreasonable long lines at airport screening as experienced at major airports in previous years and particularly earlier this summer as the number of travelers enrolled in the PreCheck expedited program has more than doubled in the last year.
"The doubled enrollment in expedited-screening programs from one year ago gives us great reason for optimism about how smooth the process will be. We’re confident, I think the bigger wild card is weather," said A4A chief economist John Heimlich.
