Injuries reported as American plane catches fire at Denver

A fire ripped through an American Airlines flight, injuring at least a dozen people.
All were thought to be minor injuries.
It came as the flight from Colorado Springs to Dallas-Fort Worth was diverted to Denver less than an hour after takeoff.
All passengers and crew were forced to evacuate with many escaping via a wing.
They had to make their way through thick smoke after an engine caught fire on landing.
The plane was carrying 172 passengers and six crew.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating.
The pilot requested to land at Denver due to an ‘engine issue’ but at the time was not deemed an emergency issue.
However, an engine caught fire as it was taxiing and flames quickly spread.
“American Airlines Flight 1006 landed safely at Denver after the crew reported engine vibrations,” the Federal Aviation Administration said.
“After landing an engine caught fire and passengers evacuated.”
“We thank our crew members, DEN team and first responders for their quick and decisive action,” American Airlines said.
As soon as the plane landed, there was some panic as ‘we smelled burning and then everybody started screaming saying there was a fire,” one passenger told the media.
It comes on the back of a spate of commercial air accidents this year including two fatal crashes killing dozens.
