Investigation after Ryanair planes collide at Stansted

Monday, 30 June 20143 min read
An investigation is underway after two Ryanair jets collided on the ground at London’s Stansted Airport.
The incident involved a plane going to Warsaw and another from Frankfurt Hahn that had just landed.
Both were Boeing 737-800s, carrying up to 189 passengers.
According to reports, the wing-tip of one plane and the tail-cone of another "made contact".
No passengers or crew were injured.
Following a three-hour delay, passengers were put on to another aircraft.
One passenger wrote on Twitter: "Huge loud crashing noise and totally felt the crush sitting at the back. Thank God it only hit the wing as if it was the body of the plane it’d been apocalypse."
The BBC said Essex Police conducted "routine breath tests" on both pilots following the incident, but there was no evidence of alcohol consumption.
A Ryanair spokesman said: "Our Stansted based engineering team are currently investigating and will repair both aircraft and return them to service as soon as possible. Ryanair sincerely apologises to affected customers for any inconvenience."
