Jet2 plans hundreds of airport job redundancies in Spain

Jet2 is planning to cut potentially hundreds of resort and airport jobs in Spain.

The airline and tour operator business is proposing talks with staff representatives on ‘mass redundancies.’

It comes following a company review of its operations.

Jet2’s Resort Flight Check-in service will reportedly be downsized or scrapped.

The service restarted last summer after the pandemic, allowing hotel guests to check in the luggage ahead of their flight home.

The company has sent notice for redundancy talks for nearly 1,000 staff at its airport bases in Alicante, Palma, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura.

Jet2 is looking to cut about 35% of these positions.

“We have reviewed our operations in Spain. We must propose a number of colleague redundancies across resort flight check-in, flight deck and cabin crew roles,” it said.

“We deeply regret these proposed redundancies, and we will be consulting with representatives to ensure that all options are fully considered.”
