JetBlue launching St Thomas flights from New York

As part of a big flight expansion across the US and Caribbean, JetBlue is launching a new route linking New York’s JFK International to the US Virgin Islands.

The service begins in October and will operate up to twice a week to the St Thomas Cyril E. King Airport.

It will use Airbus A320 aircraft on the route.

It will help to meet strong demand from the Northeast US says US Virgin Islands commissioner of tourism, Joseph Boschulte.

"Over the past year, we have been making our case to the airline about boosting connectivity from the tri-state area, and we are pleased with the timing of this twice-weekly service," he said.

JetBlue serves St. Thomas from San Juan, Puerto Rico and is restarting Boston-St. Thomas flights this fall.

Among a raft of new routes starting this summer, the airline is launching daily flights from Philadelphia to San Juan, Puerto Rico in August, as well as resuming services to the regional airports of Aguadilla and Ponce.

"Coronavirus has transformed airline route maps, and as we begin to see small signs of recovery, we continue to be flexible with our network plans," said Scott Laurence, head of revenue and planning at JetBlue.
