Jetstar dropping Townsville-Bali route
Jetstar is scrapping service on its Townsville-Bali route citing poor performance.
Flights will end on March 21 next year, with Jetstar management saying the route is no longer financially viable.
The carrier had operated the route for two years.
Townsville Bulletin reports the Bali route was among Jetstar’s worst performing international services and has been losing money for a long time.
The carrier had been in discussions with airport executives over support to maintain service but no agreement could be reached, said Jetstar Australian and New Zealand chief executive Dean Salter.
"We have operated the route for two years and have worked with the airport but we cannot see a path to making it sustainable. This decision was made with the existing passenger charges in mind, and if we agreed to the proposed additional $3 per passenger charge by Townsville Airport the route would have been even more unviable," he said.
"This was a commercial decision made by Jetstar and we respect that decision. We are of course extremely disappointed the service will cease, our team has worked very hard to drive demand on the service since its commencement in September 2015," said Townsville Airport CEO Kevin Gill.
