Kayak wants to democratize group trip planning
Travel site Kayak wants to take the hassle out of planning a group vacation with a new collaborative trip planning tool.
Called Trip Huddle, the new function helps to democratize the process by allowing each party to cast a vote on options such as a favored destination, travel dates and hotels.
Trip Huddle asks users to rate each option to come up with the best solution.
When deciding on a preferred location, the tool lists the lowest available round trip airfare to that location while users have the opportunity to suggest alternate, perhaps more budget-friendly destinations.
Estimated costs are displayed for flights and accommodations before the group casts a vote.
To kick off the process a ‘group leader’ names the group trip and then adds travel companions to start making decisions.
It all takes place within the trip planning interface rather the usual disjointed messaging among friends across numerous different platforms.
Kayak says nearly half of all Americans get stressed out planning group travel for friends or family, according to a recent survey.
