KLM plane panel falls on car roof

Dutch airline KLM has launched an investigation in Japan after two motorists had a miraculous escape.

A piece of the fuselage from a KLM jet fell off after the Boeing 777 left Kansai International Airport in Osaka.

It landed on the roof of a travelling car but both driver and passenger were unhurt.

The half-metre long panel fell from a height of about 2 km, landing on the roof and smashing the back window of the vehicle.

“KLM regrets this incident and has immediately launched an investigation into the cause,” KLM said.

“KLM is in close contact with the Japanese Civil Aviation Authority and Boeing on this matter.”

The flight carrying 321 passengers continued on to its destination and landed safely in Amsterdam.
