Korean increases A380 order
Korean Air is to purchase two more A380 aircraft, upping its A380 order to 10 aircraft.
The airline will receive the two additional A380s in May and June of 2014 respectively.
The first eight are due to be delivered between 2010 and 2013. Korean Air first ordered five A380s in 2003, and added three more last year.
The airline made the announcement as it reported record-high operating revenue of over 10 trillion Korean Won during 2008.
“Even amongst the global economic crunch and shrinking international travel demand, the airline managed to make an operating profit of 22.6 billion KRW,” it said in a statement.
“Net income for the fiscal year ending December 31 was a loss of 1,957.9 billion KRW, largely impacted by foreign exchange conversion losses resulting from the weaker Won.”
Korean Air will begin the second phase of its cabin enhancement in 2009, installing newer and more comfortable seats.
Based on the initiation of the US Visa Waiver Program for Koreans and Korea-Canada Open Skies Agreement, it also plans to increase flights to the Americas and strengthen its global network by adding flights to Europe and the CIS region.
