[LIVE MON]Advantage restructure
Advantage Travel Centres Conference 2004 Special: Advantage president, Roger Smith, encouraged members to vote in favour of the proposed changes to the organisation’s constitution in order to allow it to get stronger.
It is Mr Smith’s last year as Advantage president before retiring from the role later this year. He started his final welcoming speech by mentioning the members of staff who have recently been made redundant. He said: “The decisions that have been made were very hard.”
Earlier this month, Advantage announced it was making 11 staff redundancies as part of a restructure. Mr Smith said: “In making these changes there have been casualties.”
He urged members to vote in favour of the changes saying: “The move will bring greater benefits to members and suppliers”. He added that some details would be announced over the course of the conference and that members had already “been given an insight into the changes”. Advantage says it is trying to move away from a consortium model to a much more full profit organization.
He added: “It is no longer ‘one size fits all’”
Mr Smith said Advantage was restructuring in response to comments from members, suppliers and management consultants advising on the reorganization.
He said: “If members vote to change the constitution when the chance arises, I will be able to leave knowing that I have accomplished most of what I set out to do 19?? Years ago.”
At the time the redundancies were announced a spokesman declined to say which employees had been targeted for redundancy but it is believed that sales development roles are amongst those under threat. It is also thought that marketing department roles are involved in redundancy talks.
