Long haul tops “dream destinations” poll
Almost half of people in the UK plan to travel abroad in the next year, according to new research.
Long haul countries take the top three places in the ‘dream destinations’ poll commissioned by the Jamaica Tourist Board.
The survey of 2,000 consumers showed that 17% would choose to holiday in Australia or Zealand, 16% would opt for the US or Canada and 10% would prefer the Caribbean.
Spain is the top short haul destination, in fourth place, followed by Greece, South Africa, Italy, France, Majorca and Ireland.
The research, conducted in May, also revealed that 20% of people plan to take a holiday this summer, rising to 25% for those aged in their thirties. A total of 45% plan to travel overseas in the next year.
The poll also found that 13% have chosen to avoid the peak summer school holiday crowds by taking an early autumn break instead.
JTB UK/Europe regional director David Barber said: “We are encouraged by the interest and enthusiasm for long haul destinations. People are becoming more comfortable spending a little longer in the air in exchange for a real getaway experience.”
