Daydream Island Resort said it will bring forward a planned A$50 million refurbishment in veiw of recent damage caused by Cyclone Debbie.
The Whitsundays resort announced earlier this year a major upgrade which was scheduled to start in 2018.
It will instead remain closed due to cyclone damage and then the planned work will commence later this year.
"This decision for an extended closure has not been an easy one but will enable us to concentrate fully on restoring Daydream Island back to the top of the Queensland tourism industry," said general manager Dawson Tang.
"We are determined to bring Daydream Island back to its spectacular best. We want to work together with the Queensland Government to get the newly renovated luxury Daydream Island opened as soon as possible."
Planned works include a redevelopment of the Arrivals pavilion, reception and main Atrium area, Waterfalls restaurant and a revamp of all room types.
In addition, a new Asian restaurant will be built overlooking Mermaids Beach.
Guests with forward bookings are being contacted and will receive full refunds.
The revised reopening date is now slated for mid-2018.
