Maldives visitors warned about trouble in the capital
Holidaymakers in the Maldives are being warned to avoid large gatherings following a military blockade of the parliament building in the capital Male.
Military forcibly removed MPs from the building yesterday following orders from the president of the Indian Ocean archipelago.
The Foreign Office said the actions caused a disturbance around the parliament building.
"Previous demonstrations and political protests have led to violence and arrests," it warned visitors.
"You should take appropriate security precautions, comply with local security requirements and avoid large gatherings, protests and rallies."
