Mexico says tourism GDP keeps rising
The Mexico Ministry of Tourism is reporting that during the second quarter of 2012, the quarterly indicator of tourism GDP increased 3.2 percent in real terms, compared to the same period of last year.
According to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography, during the period April to June, the quarterly indicator of domestic tourism consumption grew 4.1 percent, compared to the same period in 2011.
Domestic tourism consumption grew 2.1 percent, while inbound tourism increased by 18.3 percent.
At recent meetings with tourism executives in London, Mexico Secretary of Tourism Gloria Guevara said that tourism is on the rise in Mexico. She said that in 2011 the country reached a record figure of 191.5 million domestic and international visitors. Projections say this year will close with more than 200 million visitors.
In the light of these figures Virgin Atlantic has announced that as of April 2013 it will increase the number of its seats on its popular London to Cancun route. The airline also said it is considering opening other new flights around Mexico.
